What not to do at I I T !

This book by CHETAN BHAGAT is certainly not about how to get into I.I.T. or for that matter about how to stay in it. It’s actually about ‘what not to do in I.I.T. ‘. This book is good to read in one’s spare time and is basically fun though it becomes boring at times.

It’s about three students, Alok, Ryan and Hari, who have just joined I.I.T. and have already become close friends. It’s about their life in the institute. They were very laidback and wanted to enjoy the best years of their life. As a result they got a five point something GPA, which by I.I.T. standards was simply pathetic.

Ryan, the lazy genius, was the undisputed leader of the gang and also the cause for Hari and Alok’s downfall. It seemed his word was law for his friends.

Alok was the over-burdened son of a poor family that was depending on him to solve all its problems by getting a good job. Hari, on the other hand was the average Joe. Most of the time Alok was sceptical about Ryan’s decisions but eventually went along with them as it was a losing battle trying to argue with the other two.

After they got their first semester GPAs, Alok decided to walk away from the gang and ended up with Venkat, the mean, lean, mark-scoring machine. But Alok was certainly not happy being with Venkat and soon came back. They dealt with the fact that they were five pointers by a form of denial and defiance. Meanwhile, Hari was carrying on an increasingly serious love affair with Neha. She was another confused kid, who happened to be the daughter of Cherian, the tyrannical professor of Industrial Engineering. Soon the fourth year came. Hari desperately wanted to do well in Industrial Engineering in order to impress Professor Cherian. His miserable failures in this quest are hilariously described. Finally Ryan came up with the hare-brained idea of stealing the exam papers from Cherian’s office. They, however messed up this task much worse than their classes. They got caught red handed and their fate was in the Disco’s (disciplinary committee) hands. Prof. Veera, the only professor in the institute who Ryan, Hari and Alok admired, tried to help them. He was part of the committee but the Disco doesn’t care or spare that easily. The only thing they do is…..SCARE. The three musketeers were suspended for an entire semester in their last year. Unable to take the pressure, Alok tried to kill himself by jumping off the institute roof. He barely survived this blow.

Prof. Veera then advised them to work on Ryan’s lube project, in the hope that they might get a clean grade sheet and perhaps jobs. They were successful in this and finally Cherian approved their project and all of them ended up with decent jobs. Ryan started working with professor Veera, Alok got a job in Delhi and was soon sent to the U.S. The salary he was receiving got rid of all his family problems. Hari too got a satisfactory job in Bombay.

This isn’t just a book about three bumbling IITians. It’s about how sometimes the system and the teachers get a bit harsh on the students and don’t realise it. It’s also about knowing what’s important in life and to maintain a balance between having fun and being serious. WORK hard, party hard, this should be the motto of every student !! What makes this story so special is that every student can relate to the maddening pressure, the scary profs not to mention the back-breaking homework pictured in this book.

Whether it’s Hari showing up drunk for his viva or Ryan’s crazy schemes or even Alok’s depression — this book can’t be ignored.

24th JUNE-----GERMANY vs SWEDEN!!

The first half was a nightmare for Sweden!! PODOLSKI started the scoring!! It was KLOSE who showed his skills and took a shot on goal but the keeper blocked it but PODOLSKI took the rebound perfectly!!! The 12th minute got more glory to PODOLSKI!! Klose gave the ball to Podolski who shot at the goal with his left foot!! At the end of it all it was Sweden who became the first team to get knocked out in the last 16 in this world cup!!! In the meantime, it was ARGENTINA who won their match against MEXICO and got a seat in the quarter finals to face hosts...GERMANY!!!!

22nd JUNE-----BRAZIL vs JAPAN!!

Brazil has finally showed why they are the world champions!!! ZICO's Japanese side did fairly well getting the ball in the oppositions half occasionally but the Brazilian side was certainly dominating the game!! Japan's TAMADA's superb goal in the 34th minute shocked the Brazilian fans!!Alex gave a fine pass to TAMADA who slammed the ball at the back of the net!! The Brazilian side looked tense but RONALDINHO, Cicinho and of course RONALDO helped to eleminate this pressure!! It was Ronaldinho's cross to Cicinho who headed it to Ronaldo who put his head to the ball and it went to the back of the net in the extra time of the first half!! After this there was no stopping the Brazilians. Juninho scored a blinder from way out of the penalty box in the 53rd minute....25 yards to be precise!! Then it was GILBERTO's turn to score!! Ronaldinho gave a wonderful pass for GILBERTO to get and he scored with ease!! RONALDO had the last word scoring from a distance of 20 yards in the 81st minute!! The ball curled straight into the net helping RONALDO equal the record of German legend GERD MULLER of highest number of goals scored.....14!!! IN THE END BRAZIL WON 4-1!!

22nd JUNE-----GHANA vs US!!

Ghana, surprisingly showing that african nations can do it as well!! The scoring started in the 22nd minute with GHANA's DRAMAN who, in a very chilled manner put the ball straight in the net!!! Then in the 43rd minute US equalised. Beasley took the ball in midfield and gave it to DEMPSEY who smashed it into the net!!! Minutes after this goal, GHANA recieved a penalty kick thank to OGUCHI for pushing PIMPONG!! APPIAH doesn't miss many and he didn't this time!! He took the lead for GHANA!! After this the scoreline stayed this way with GHANA destroying U.S.'s chance of winning!!

19th JUNE-----UKRAINE vs SAUDI ARABIA!!

After getting beaten by SPAIN 4-0...UKRAINE thrashed SAUDI ARABIA in the same way!!! It was RUSOL who started the scoring with the help of a cross by KALICHENKO in the 4th minute!!! Then after several attempts on goal REBROV took a shot from 30 yards away from the goalkeeper and the next sight---REBROV celebrating his terrific goal in the 36th minute!!! Shevchenko finally got his act going....A KALINICHEKO free kick met Sheva's head and sailed into the net!! In the 84th minute, SHEVCHENKO ran down the field and gave a brilliant pass to KALINICHENKO who finally got his goal!! At the end of it all, UKRAINE made SAUDI ARABIA taste the feeling of losing 4-0!!

18th JUNE-----BRAZIL vs AUSTRALIA!!

Brazil is still not in its top form but hey do not need to be!!!They went on to beat the socceroos on the 18th of JUNE!!The aussies were handling everything that was thrown at them in the first half!! But the second half story was different......it was the 49th minute in which RONALDINHO gave the ball to RONALDO who passed it on to ANDRIANO to do the job!!! In the 90th minute the socceroos were deperate to get a goal....in the process ROBINHO took a shot on goal but sadly it hit the crossbar but it landed in substitute,FRED's legs who got it into the empty net!!! BRASIL did it again!!!! I know that BRAZIL is not in their top form but meri taraf se BRASIL jeete gi!!!

16th JUNE-----ARGENTINA vs SERBIA and MONTENEGRO!!!

This has to take a long time!!!The goals scoring in this match went up to 6!!!And all of them came from Argentinian feet!!! They started the goal scoring right from the kickoff!!!!It was Rodriguez who scored the opening goal with the help of Saviola's pass in the 6th minute!!! The second goal showed Argentina's teamwork, it took 24 touches until it landed in the net by CAMBIASSO in the 31st minute!!!! Then it was Rodriguez's turn again!! He scored his second goal in the 41st minute!!! Messi made his first WORLD CUP FINALS appearance ever and soon came into the action by helping Hernan Crespo get a goal of his own!!!This was scored in the 78th minute!! Then in the 84th minute TEVEZ tackled to defenders and then went for a shot which went straight past the keeper!!! To end it MESSI..... the WONDERBOY had to score his first WORLD CUP FINALS goal!!! AFTER ALL THIS MARADONA WENT MAD AND STARTED SWINGING HIS SPARE ARGENTINA SHIRT IN THE AIR!!!

ME AND MUZIC ALWAYS GO TOGETHER!!

My type of music......assorted genres...... rock....pop....hindi.....country...rap......you name it I got it!!! My favourite bands have to be Linkin Park and Blue!!! Linkin park keep coming up with such gems like NUMB..... IN THE END.....NUMB/ENCORE.......99 PROBLEMS........POINTS OF AUTHORITY etc etc etc. And for BLUE....ALL RISE......ONE LOVE....U MAKE ME WANNA and so on.....!! I can even play the guitar which adds to my singing.....it has been about a year since i am learning!!! These days hindi songs are too good!! Like our own Adnan Sami's KABHI NAHIN..... The song RUK RUK RUKNA NA by the film Jhankar Beats!!! Josh the band has done a great job by coming up with KABHI!!! The movies these days also have loads of great songs like the movie BLUFFMASTER had songs which were tremendous!!! Strings has also come up with great songs!!! Rappers like EMINEM which i bet all of you must have heard of and 50 CENT.....they are just too good!!! Apart from these..there are some old popular stars too like simon and garfunkel.....carpenters!!!AND how can we forget ELVIS PRESLEY!!!!

15th JUNE-----ENGLAND vs T & T!!

T & T's defence was really good....getting rid of all the attacks from the opposition....ENGLAND!!! In the 45th minute John TERRY made a desperate clearance really near he goal line!! In the 58th minute Eriksson made a double substitution, bringing on ROONEY and LENNON!!!This speeded up the game...the ball was moving faster between players because of Rooney and Lennon's speed!! Then finally after waiting for 83 minutes Beckham's cross was headed past the goalkeeper into the net by Peter CROUCH!!! Then in the 91st minute, Gerrard pulled off a phenomenal goal which should have come quite earlier as some fans might think!! The scoreline at the end of the match was 2-0!!

14th JUNE-----SPAIN vs UKRAINE!!!

Spain have made the start that they must have desired!!!! Getting 4 goals and a clean sheet is a dream!!!They were all over them!! The 13th minute goal by none other than XABI ALONSO gave the spanish the lead!!! And then again..... they just had to score another goal!!! This goal came from DAVID VILLA!! Then Villa did it again with the help of a penalty!! Fernando Torres tucked in another one just as a formality!!!

12th JUNE-----Socceroos vs Japanis

Woooh!! What a match....absolutely phenomenal!!!Japan was one goal up with the help of Shunsuke Nakamura's 26th-minute goal!!Till the 80th minute there were no signs of the australians getting an equaliser but then Australia made a substitution which changed the whole match!!!! IT WAS TIM CAHILL that did it for the SOCCEROOS!!! This is a perfect example of 'never say die'. He scored the equalizer in the 84th minute and just to take the game over to his side scored a spectacular 89th minute goal....and...to make the win look better...John Aloisi did the job.

11th JUNE-----Portugal vs Angola!!

THE RULED VS THE RULER The first 10 minutes were really interesting.....but after that the match dragged on!!! Just when the match started, it seemed as if Portugal was going to score the earliest World CUp goal in a match in HISTORY!!But....it missed by some inches!!! In the fourth minute Pauleta scored with Luis Figo's brilliant pass!!!Wooh!!! Portugal were one up!!! The score line remained the same throughout the match....in the end Portugal won 1-0!!!!

10th JUNE-----MIDNIGHT-----ARGENTINA vs IVORY COAST!!!

Ivory Coast showed the world why they have been chosen to be in this WORLD CUP!!! But unfortunately they lost....but they put on a very good fight!! Crespo was the first one to score. Then it was Saviola's turn to score just to increase Argentina's lead by 2-0!!! Just when it was looking stable for Argentina Ivory coast's captain, Drogba, scored a blinder to put Argentina on the backfoot!!! In the end it was ARGENTINA who grabbed the victory!!

10th JUNE----- ENGLAND vs PARAGUAY!!

It was quite a boring match!!!!England taking the lead early on in the fourth minute with a bit of help by Paraguay's CARLOS GAMARRA!!! Beckham got the free kick right and touched the midfielder and sailed into the net!!! Keeper VILLAR Justo of Paraguay was injured early on and was replaced by BOBADILLA Aldo who saved two Lampard shots brilliantly!!! It seemed as if the referee had a prejeudice against the England side and espicially against Peter Crouch!!! All in all it was quite a boring match where England came out victorius with a bit of help from the paraguyan midfielder!!!

AMAZEMENT EVERYWHERE!!!

This is june 9th,friday, GERMANY vs COSTA RICA!!What a match!!! i have no words for it....but i will try to summarise it for u!!!it starts off in the sixth minute...a goal by germany's LAHM....germany is up 1-nil....then the climax....a goal by WANCHOPE levels it all up in the 12th minute!!! then germany strikes again with KLOSE............and this was just the first half!!!!the second was underway and KLOSE shows his ability to score again and GERMANY takes a 2 goal lead!!!!!but when we thought it was over WANCHOPE gets it past LEHMANN and the score goes to 3-2!!!!but in the last ten minutes fringis scored from way out of the penalty box and it all ended in a close encounter with a score of 4-2 where GERMANY came out as the victors!!!!!
